The countdown has begun for Apple’s iPhone 17 series, which is expected to be unveiled next month. Reports suggest that notable changes are coming to the lineup, including the replacement of the Plus model with a slimmer “Air” variant.
The iPhone 17 series will be sold at a higher price than its predecessor
One of the most talked-about aspects of the new series is its price. Reliable industry sources claim that the iPhone 17 lineup will launch at a higher price than the iPhone 16 series. According to GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, the primary reason for the increase is U.S. import tariffs on products from countries like China where iPhones are assembled. Currently, Apple pays a 20% tariff on iPhones imported from China, while devices shipped from India face no such tax.
The Wall Street Journal reports that a large share of iPhones sold in the U.S. are now imported from India. However, shifting trade policies under the Trump administration could impact pricing. Analysts estimate that iPhone 17 models in the U.S. could be $50 to $100 more expensive than their predecessors. Apple might offset this by making hardware upgrades, such as increasing the base storage on the iPhone 17 Pro from 128GB to 256GB.
This approach could make the higher price more justifiable to consumers. However, the price hikes may not be limited to the U.S. and could extend to global markets. For now, it’s best to wait for Apple’s official announcement for confirmation.
